Beauty Trends for 2020
What’s On Trend for Beauty in 2020? Here are some of our favorites from Ulta!
The skin is the largest organ in the body and acts as a barrier against UV radiation, chemicals, and other physical pollutants, not to mention that better skin = better makeup application, so everyone – young and “mature” – is jumping on the bandwagon of better skincare.
Here are a few tips and highlights of the most popular ingredients trending right now:
Hyaluronic Acid – “Hyaluronic acid” is the buzz word that everyone is looking for in skincare! When used in skincare products like creams and serums, hyaluronic acid hydrates and soothes dry skin. “Because of its ability to draw and hold water, it can be used as a humectant in your skincare regimen. It continually keeps skin moisturized throughout the day.” says Dr. Rachel Nazarian, a dermatologist at the Schweiger Dermatology Group in New York City. “It will make the skin appear more dewy and younger because it improves skin elasticity”, says Dr. Kavita Mariwalla, a dermatologist in New York City.
Rose Water or Rose Milk – The antioxidants in rose water protect the cells in the skin against damage. Rose water also has anti-inflammatory properties, which means it can be put on the skin to soothe the irritation caused by conditions, such as eczema and rosacea. Rose water acts as an inhibitor against elastase and collagenase, which are both harmful to the skin. This, in turn, can help soothe the skin and reduce redness, as well as act as an anti-aging product by reducing the appearance of lines and wrinkles.
Essential oils for natural skin care – With their anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and soothing properties, essential oils are used for a variety of skin care concerns. While research into the efficacy of essential oils is ongoing, advocates say oils can help dry, oily, and acne-prone skin.
Oils – In small doses, oils make skin radiant. Put them on dry areas after creams — as a rule, oils can penetrate moisturizers, but not vice versa, though there is some controversy over which to apply first – check your skin type and read up! Hydration – especially during the winter months hydration make your skin feel better, and makeup glides on easier too when your skin is properly hydrated! Obviously that comes from drinking plenty of water, but sometimes we need a little extra from our skin care regime. Look for products that highlight good hydration.
All natural, vegan, organic, animal friendly, safe testing – It’s nice that today’s consumer is becoming more and more conscientious about using products that are good for you, good for animals and good for the environment…yet still effective for your regimen! Brands are aware and catching the trend!
Safer, better self-tan – Brands are offering vegan products, with no “stinky” odor and clear application.
Dermaplaning – Dermaplaning provides an effective exfoliation treatment that promotes deeper product penetration, boosting the effects of skin care products while making the skin look and feel smoother and also can reduce the appearance of acne scars. The treatment also works to remove facial hair that can trap dirt and oils.
Lashes – Fake lashes are the trend for sure but professional lash application can be expensive and time-consuming! There are a few tricks to getting those glorious lashes without the big time and money investment.
Try letting a professional apply strip lashes or cluster lashes. Granted they don’t last as long as the individual lashes applied at some lash bars, but they are less time-consuming and cheaper, applied by a professional and look amazing for that special occasion!
One-step blow-dry or flat iron/brush at home – Try the “all in one” blow dryer or brush/flat iron for smooth curly or straight hair. It’s a more effective “2 for 1” blowout or flat-iron style saving time! Ionic technology in the product is the key to seal the hair to avoid frizz and add shine.
Dry Shampoo – once you have a great blowout, make it last with a dry shampoo. There are lots of brands and scents out now to help keep your hair clean, but styled, for days!
Long-lasting and toxin-free nail color – We all know about gel, but there are new products out now that allow you to apply color that’s longer-lasting than traditional polish, but not as harmful for your nails as the soak required for gel. These new polishes last longer but can be removed at home with regular nail polish remover.
So what are some of the specific products that help you achieve these goals? (all available at Ulta at Colony Place!)
